How To Update Nightstands: A Stunning Makeover

** Country Chic Paint provided me with the products for this furniture makeover, however the thoughts and opinions expressed here are out of 100% delight!

I live in a city full of retirees and I love it. They exude wisdom, compassion for my children, and for the most part are so friendly. Another perk?! They often downsize and sell some of the best furniture pieces for amazing prices. I recently had the pleasure of meeting a kind old man who was selling a pair of campaign style nightstands from their guest room. I'm pretty sure they didn't entertain guests often, because these were in breathtaking condition.

Um, if they were in such great condition, why did you paint them?
Head on over to Country Chic Paint to find out why!

I took these unflattering chests and paired them with one of my favorite paint colors from Country Chic Paint and transformed them into eye catching pieces. The contrast between the brass hardware and this bright and bold navy hue makes me smile.

We're taking this furniture makeover to Country Chic Paint today. While you're there, sit back and enjoy a treasure trove of inspirational projects from some wonderful talented bloggers!

Have a great weekend!

The Belcourte Collection

Today, I'm doing the happy Tuesday dance. Look at these AMAZING finds! Two matching vintage beds. They have detail, wood wheels, spindle legs and lots of worn chippiness. They are perfect! And there wasn't one, there were TWO of them!

I may have actually thrown my money at the gal selling them.

Two sisters need these beds! They need to have pillow fights, late night discussions and lots and lots of giggles. But, before anybody can enjoy them, they need a serious face lift. Perhaps, somebody living in a gingerbread house might enjoy them as is. But....I don't know very many people that live in  gingerbread houses. Do you?

Inspired by Anthropologie, I wanted them to be bright & bold.

I chose Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Florence which gives you a really deep turquoise/peacock blue hue. I highlighted them with a mixture of Clear & Dark Wax.

Here are some of the details of this furniture makeover...

What if you could fix it up?

The construction and lines are there. How about the color and hardware? Yawining? Yeah, me too.  Four letters... D.R.A.B. And although I love the existing gold trim, in my personal opinion there was a little too much of it. We are bordering on goddy.

My plan? I'll keep the gold lines along the drawers of the dresser and on the legs and feet of both pieces and I would add some gold back to the hardware. Everything else would disappear in a silky smooth layer of turquoise.

Before you ask about the color I have to apologize. I don't have exact measurements for this turquoise hue. It was a little bit of trial and error on this project by dumping in a little Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Florence, Provence and Aubusson Blue and giving it a good mix. These pieces were finished off with both clear and dark wax. A little bit of paint went along way for these pieces.

The Lenox Bedroom Set

I love when I come across a pair of matching vintage bedroom sets. I like to picture siblings playing games, flipping through magazines and listening to the oldies but goodies and telling stories to one another at bedtime. These headboards and night stands have memories and tell stories. There was a lot more life left in these pieces and we wanted to spruce them up for many more years to come.

We painted these beauties in Paris Grey Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan and sealed them with Clear Wax. I love how the dark wood pokes through the light hues and all that amazing charm now pops.

Here's a before of the night stands.  Dark Dark & Dark.

Here's the After...

So much better, right?

The Lenkie Bedside Chests

I found a pair of French Provincial bedside chests that matched but had slightly different hardware on the top drawers. I loved that they were similar but didn't match exactly. These chests were a little bigger then normal sized night stands and with curvy feet and three drawers of storage, I was sold! What I didn't love? There were medium size chunks taken out of of the back legs! Luckily for me, I have a handy husband. ;)

Once the bones of the pieces were fixed, these were refinished in Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Country Grey. I think this may be my new favorite color. Its a beautiful blend of light taupe grey hues that give bedroom furniture a perfect blank slate to work with.

Painting over the gold trim updated these pieces and brought them out of the 1970's. Selecting a nice neutral color still allows all of the details shine without looking too busy.

Happy painting!

The Penelope Bedroom Set

I get a lot of questions about where I find my furniture. I find them at Estate Sales, Craigslist and sometimes thrift stores. And they look like this...

 T
hey are usually brown. Come from the 60's-70's era. And have incredible hardware.

Most would walk past this and think, " I'm pretty sure I've seen that before at my Grandma's house."
Those Grandma's and Grandpa's were so lucky.... they received quality furniture back then.

This set came with an armoire and a long dresser, both in the same busy pattern. I was drawn to the Queen size headboard with all her swirls and curves and decided to lighten her up with some Chalk Paint® decorative paint in Old White. I pictured her dressed up with yummy white sheets, a fluffy white duvet and some fun pillows and a throw.

The side tables received the same treatment and will be paired with the headboard...
