I have a quick furniture flip of my own to share. Introducing bright colors and bold patterns is a great way to freshen up a space without a lot of effort. Reupholstering a piece of furniture can be for both the novice and the beginner! What can you do with a little paint, foam, Minted fabric and a staple gun? Read on!
I started with this cute little Kids Bench. It had a dark cherry finish, some peeling veneer, great storage capacity and one hard seat! The original finish wasn't our style and the comfort factor was a zero!
Who wants to read on a hard bench? Not I. :) The old veneer was removed, new veneer was added and the bench was painted it in a warm white color. Next, we addressed that lack of comfort. ;) We cut down a 1/4 inch board to the size of the bench, added some foam and used a staple gun to adhere this lovely Hexipattern Fabric in Orange to it.
Put it altogether and we've got a cute, functional and comfy place for the kids to plunk down with their favorite book.

A Seventies Intervention
Oh good golly would you look at this?! You may have passed up a bedroom set just like this at a garage sale. What, why!? You don't think it's pretty? ;) Okay, you're right. It's hideous but ah, come on... it has the bones to be love-e-lee. We're going to transform this bedroom set into something spectacular for just $25. Yep, you read that right. Twenty-five, one dollar bills. With just a little paint, this bedroom makeover is going from drab to fab!
Take a gander at the hardware. They are exquisite, but they get swallowed up in the existing wood finish. Care for a close up? Friends, they just don't make hardware like they used to!
They also don't make wood like they used to. ;) I'd rather fix up an older all wood set any day then shell out $$ for a new set that may or may not contain particle board.
We unscrewed all of the hardware, grabbed a paint brush and some Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting and went to work. After two and half layers of paint, we gave it light distressing and put it back together.
And Voilà! In no time at all, a new bedroom set was born.

You are going to learn how to create two pieces of furniture simply by separating the top and the bottom sections of a tired china hutch.

Sometimes, it is love at first site. Sometimes, it takes some warming up to. Sometimes, you can give a piece a facelift with just a little bit of paint. Sometimes, you make alterations first. This one was Love. At. First. Site.
These gorgeous arched doors were staring at me and I knew I had to have it. I didn't necessarily like it "as is", but I saw the potential and the potential called for some alterations. The vision? I would separate the two piece china hutch and create two distinct pieces and functions out of them.

When I'm selecting a hutch to dissect, I like to look for ones with straight lines at the top as opposed to an arched top. When you're creating two separate pieces out of a hutch, a hutch with a straight line at the top gives the new piece a more natural look rather then looking like a hutch top that you've tried to turn into a cabinet.
Two reasons most straight lined hutches are open on top. First, if its a lighted cabinet it needs space for the cords. If there aren't any built in lights, it simply just saves the furniture company money and time when let's face it, nobody can see up there anyway. ;)
Since the top of our hutch was being turned into a stand alone cabinet and the new height would allow someone to see the top of it, we needed to create a false top. We selected a pine board from our local big box hardware store and had them cut it to size.
We didn't want to worry about whether or not the existing hutch top was square so we opted to give our measurements an extra 1/4" inch overage from our hutch dimensions. By doing so, we created the illusion of another layer of molding.
We used some wood glue and a nail gun to secure the board to the top. Then, we gave it a quick stain so that pine closely matched the existing stain. This cabinet was going to be distressed so giving the cabinet a universal base color before painting it would help those distressed areas look more natural.
What we did to the top we also executed to the bottom. We added another stained pine board to the bottom of the hutch so that we had a thicker surface area to work with when we added our feet. We selected inexpensive bun style legs and gave them the same stain treatment before securing them to the bottom of the hutch the hutch.
When we finished, our new cabinet looked like this...

I am excited to be able to share another Guest Post at Country Chic Paint today! I decided to go big & bold or go home with this next transformation! I found this Old World dresser at my local thrift store. It possessed nine clean drawers and amazing hardware and it had me at swirl.
What it lacked in height, I could give her and what it lacked in color... well my heavens, I could fix that too!
If you haven't yet tried Country Chic Paint before, you're really missing out! Country Chic Paint is a chalk and mineral based paint that goes on so smooth, dries quickly and produces such a beautiful finish. It's really one of my top three favorite paints to work with!
I decided to put Country Chic Paint to the test. Could I really push the limits and complete a dresser transformation with just one pint of paint? I was a little nervous. Then, I reminded myself that the theme for this project was "Go Big and Bold or Go Home", so I went for it!
Not only did I have enough for this long dresser but I still had a little bit left over for some DIY Art Work. I think that says a lot about the quality of their paint. If you missed it, hop on over and check out this DIY Hand Painted Sign shown below photos that I made with my left overs. ;)
Before I opened up my can of Fresh Mustard paint, I added bun feet to the bottom of our dresser. If you're interested in learning more about how to add legs to furniture, you can check out our full tutorial here. To keep with the Old World look, I opted to give it a heavily distressed finish. But, I didn't use sand paper and I didn't use a wet rag to accomplish this. Instead, I used a Reverse Distressing technique explained here in our Guest Post.

Today, I'm doing the happy Tuesday dance. Look at these AMAZING finds! Two matching vintage beds. They have detail, wood wheels, spindle legs and lots of worn chippiness. They are perfect! And there wasn't one, there were TWO of them!

Two sisters need these beds! They need to have pillow fights, late night discussions and lots and lots of giggles. But, before anybody can enjoy them, they need a serious face lift. Perhaps, somebody living in a gingerbread house might enjoy them as is. But....I don't know very many people that live in gingerbread houses. Do you?
Inspired by Anthropologie, I wanted them to be bright & bold.
I chose Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Florence which gives you a really deep turquoise/peacock blue hue. I highlighted them with a mixture of Clear & Dark Wax.
