The Penelope Armoire

Once upon a time armoires and long dressers were only used to house clothing in our bedrooms. Now, they can be seen in foyers, as TV consoles, re-purposed into bathroom vanities, used for extra linen storage, in offices and as sofa tables. They have so many uses. And they fit in just about any room of the house. As a seller, it can be hard to commit to a color choice when you know that there are several color options that would look amazing on one piece.

This armoire came as part of a bedroom set and enabled me to get my "color fix". Deciding to break up this set and sell some of the pieces separately allowed me to refinish the side tables and headboard  in Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Old White. If you missed that transformation, you can view it here.

That left a larger armoire to play around with in another color.  I was really drawn to the vintage chunkiness of this piece and knew instantly that if I paired it with Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Graphite, that it would look equally beautiful. A true win-win for me! I love this color and the way it looks against the original vintage hardware.

One bedroom set, painted in two very different colors. Both beautiful in their own right.

Happy painting!

  1. How did you darken the handles?

    1. I'm sorry that I missed your question one year ago! In case you're still interested in knowing, I mixed a little bit of dark grey paint with some glaze and dabbed it over the hardware.
