This Wet Distress Painted Furniture Technique Is So Easy!

This wet distress painted furniture technique is FABULOUS! Distressing furniture with this method leaves your painted and distressed furniture looking authentically worn BUT without the messy clean up!

One of my favorite things about this no-mess distressing furniture method is that it allows you to conveniently paint and distress your furniture while you're in the comfort of your home!

The beauty of this no-mess distressing furniture technique is that it doesn't use an ounce of sandpaper!

Which means we get all the benefits of a beautifully worn finish without any of the gritty sandpaper/paint residue!

Wet distressing chalk paint checks off all the boxes...

- It's easy!

- It's quick!
- And, there's nothing to sweep or dust or vacuum up afterwards!!

If you are a lazy DIY-er like me then you're going to enjoy this furniture distressing tutorial!

Plus, I'm going to let you in on a little secret...

The distressing marks you'll get when you wet distress look so much better than when you use sandpaper to distress your furniture. ;) Wet distressing really does give you the BEST distressed look for your antique furniture.

Today, I am sharing a fantastic way to re-purpose an old table and turn it into a rustic and space saving rustic farmhouse desk.

Let's face it, space is a commodity! Especially in our kids bedrooms. What if I could show you a way to get two desks out of one ugly kitchen table?

This next furniture makeover is not only going to save on space, it's going to get a lot of bang for our buck!

UPHOLSTERY FABRIC FURNITURE MAKEOVER

This upholstery fabric tutorial will teach you how to reupholster a chair. If upholstery repair sounds intimidating, don't stress. We break down reupholstering in a few easy steps!

"Broken crayons still color."

All it takes is YOU to imagine it, think it and do it! You can create new things out of old things.

And it doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

And it doesn't have to take a lot of time.

This here was once a piano bench. Do you see that large faded spot in the middle of the bench?

I look at that worn area and I can picture a little girl or boy sitting there practicing their sheet music over and over again...

Perfecting a craft takes time and dedication and this bench tells that story.

HOW TO UPHOLSTER A BENCH

We don't own a piano in our home. But, it doesn't have to be used for the same purpose.

I do have a small area in our foyer for Ms. Georgia. And this bench would make the perfect spot to put on our shoes before we head out the door everyday.

I stripped the old and ugly upholstery off and then ran like mad to our outside garbage can. ;)

See all those worn areas on her spindly legs? I was a big fan of all 412 scuff marks and I wanted to show them off.

Since the wood was lighter in color, I selected a darker and richer hue to help all those details pop. Country Chic Paint in Liquorice was perfect for this furniture makeover and it went on like a dream!

Country Chic Paint has very low odor (I painted inside!), quick drying times and it has the most beautiful coverage!

After just 1.5 coats of paint, she looked like this. Black, chippy and the perfect amount of natural distressing.

While my protective wax dried I used some inexpensive 1" foam, measured it and then cut it to the size of the top of the bench.

I selected a new upholstery fabric with oodles of color and stapled it around the foam. And Voilà!... The Georgia Bench. That. Was. It.

An easy DIY project that took just a little over an hour to complete but added some major color to our living space.

The Second Avenue Table

This round oak table has seen some years but it still had plenty of life left in it. A client asked me to update it into a game table for her play room.

The base was painted in Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Old White. The top was stripped and re-stained in Walnut. The table was then heavily distressed and waxed for protection. We added some refinished antique chairs to go with it. You can view them here.

I love the combination of the dark top with the light base. What a facelift!

The Crest Chairs

A client bought these antique crest chairs for a game table their playroom. You feel noble just sitting in them. :) But, they didn’t match her game table (another transformation project).

These were painted in Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Old White. The chairs took to the chalk paint in all the right places. I love the knobby legs and all of the detail these chairs had to offer. I love Annie Sloan for creating such wonderful paint that gives texture to pieces like these.

The Second Avenue Console Table

I love Annie Sloan products. The l-o-v-e should really be capitalized. One of the things I love about the paint is that it contains zero black pigment. Why does that matter you ask? Well because. It allows you to mix Annie Sloan colors with one another and produce the most amazing true and vibrant colors. This side table received such a treatment. I'm absolutely thrilled that my client also loved it with a capital L.
