Don't buy new nightstands, refinish and paint your old ones or find an inexpensive pair at a garage sale, thrift shop or estate sale! Painting furniture has been the latest craze for the past 5 years. I think it has become so popular over the years because it allows you to up-cycle and reuse the furniture pieces that you already own and transform them into beautiful new pieces of furniture with just a little bit of paint!

Case in point. I found a pair of Ethan Allen nightstands at an estate sale for $40. At $20 a nightstand, I couldn't pass them up. They had dovetail construction and were in near perfect condition. The problem was... they were ugly and outdated (which is why I'm pretty sure the original owner let them walk for $40.) The curvy trim and the spindly legs screamed "Hello, 80's!" but I was determined to bring them up to speed to the 3rd millennium with some bold color and a hardware change.
This post was NOT sponsored by Dixie Belle Paint Co... however, I did receive free products from Dixie Belle for this furniture makeover. The glowing compliments are in no way, shape or form due to receiving these products for free. I just thoroughly enjoyed working with their products!
I want to send a really big thanks to Dixie Belle Paint Company for supplying the paint and finish for this side table makeover! When they approached me and asked if I'd like to try their products, I was immediately impressed with their color palette. If you enjoy color, you'll have no problem finding some gorgeous hues! I couldn't wait to try Plum Crazy out on these out-of-date end tables.
After just two coats of paint they were covered in a gorgeous rich plum color. The paint was so easy to apply! I waited 24 hours for the paint to dry and cure before applying the top coat. Dixie Belle Paint has a few top coat options. I wanted a little bit of shine for these nightstands so I chose to use Clear Coat Satin Finish as the top coat. Friends honestly... the application was SUPER easy! Dixie Belle Paint's Clear Coat is thicker than most top coats that I've tried. You apply it with a paint brush without the worry of having it run. It gave these pieces an unbelievable finish and my paint brushes cleaned up so quickly! It is really fabulous stuff!
I had some dangling hardware leftover from another project that I used for this colorful nightstand makeover. Other than paint, changing out the hardware is another inexpensive way to update a piece of furniture without breaking the bank. You can even paint your existing hardware with Dixie Belle Paint. ;)
