I saw this old chunky hutch in our local Craigslist ads. After a little bit of back and forth negotiating I had myself a vintage hutch loaded into our truck. I didn't need a hutch (isn't that usually how it goes?), but I decided that the bottom part of the hutch had the perfect dimensions to be converted into a media console. I couldn't wait to get my hands on a paint brush and some chalk paint® with all of those fabulous carvings!

That doesn't always happen with a furniture makeover story. But, it happened here and it all started by finding this old antique desk from the 1890's. Her spindle legs, her wooden wheels, the curves and even the hardware were in such great shape for her age. The original finish was chipping everywhere but beyond that, she was beautiful...
I started with the wheels. They received a good cleaning and some painters tape. Then, I sprayed them with some gold spray paint.
The hardware received the same spa treatment. And while they were drying I could turn my attention to the chipping finish and the new upholstery on the chair.
Both the chair and the desk received a good sanding. The chippy finish was a cinch to take off.... one of the perks of finding a piece so old. ;) And then, the magic started. If you're looking for a really nice Emerald Green hue, General Finishes has it. I'm smitten.
Here's why... Meet The Cynthia Dresser all dolled up.
Thank you, HGTV for featuring this desk makeover! Is green your thing? ;)
